SP-1 Wont Shoot With Hollow Point Bolt

Posted: 2 years ago Quote #18
So I got the Hollow point bolt with the virtue board and I'm super excited to see how well the gun shoots with the upgrades. Unfortunately the gun will not shoot at all. I have adjusted the dwell and velocity. I also pretty sure I followed the instructions. Anybody have any words of advice or a fix. It will greatly appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. I tested the gun with my old bolt and it worked fine!

What does it do (or not do)? Does it not make any noise at all? Does it just vent some air every time you pull the trigger and the bolt not move?
What color is the bolt and the bolt stalk?
Let me know and we should be able to help you further..

Thanks-

Colin,
It basically vents air and the bolt does not move. I have a blue aluminum stalk and a black bolt.

We have seen this happen in some Ions. What is happening is the "sail" O-ring on the outside of the bolt (the larger of the two O-rings) is not sealing correctly. We use a Metric 1.6 mm Width, 17.1 mm ID O-ring for this sail to tune for the best balance of consistent seal -vs- least friction. But some Ions simply want a larger O-ring. First try replacing it with a common #015 (tank/asa size) O-ring. If it still gives problems, you will need to step up to a size #016 to solve the issue for good in that Ion. Don't forget to lube this O-ring before re-assembly!

Hope this helps.

Hi there chaps. my name is gommie. and i have done a lot of work with this hollow bolt to make it work in the sp1 before the chaps here made a stem to replace the sp1 back cap.

And theres some thing you should know if dry fire testing your marker..

do not use a bung or block the barrel,, if so you will blow the oring off the stalk this in turn will stop the bolt from moving.
The sp1 is a well sealed marker having both a breach oring seal for and aft of the ball feed point..

so theres only one way for the gas to go.. back wards.. this in turn will unseat the oring.
Plus only use a marker based lube ,, As a oil based lube will swell the oring and make it sticky,

Hope this helps.

I have run these hollow bolts in both standard sp1s and black heart set ups and have found them to run in both.
With the black heart being better as you get the chance to set the dwell.

if you have to dry fire and lets face it some times you do.. then put your barrel into a blanket ect..
Dont use a long barrel bung .. As this will seal the barrel and force the air back down the bolt

Hope this helps

Oh by the way there was one other thing i want to post about how well these bolts work..

My sp1 with hollow bolt fitted and set to run at 280 fps right..  Now same marker with no change to the board or reg but now fitted with the standard ion bolt..  The balls are barely moving.. about 30fps if your lucky..

I dont work for these chaps so its not just a big up.. i live and work in the uk.. i build F1 car engines .

But i aslo design and build paintmarkers,, and have been playing for over 20 years..

And its about time we had a product that works , And these bolts work and work well.
The sp1 having the slow start up soft ware is just perfect for this bolt.. And as soon as i saw the ion hollow bolt i knew i could fit it in the sp1..
The rest as they say is history,, keep up the good work..

Hey buds long time no see.. just to let you know i have been using the much harder automag orings on my stalk in my ion.. and i have found then to be much better than softer rubber orings..

also there are some harder orings in the ion Oring sets .. these work well as well.. and cut down on bolt stick as they have far less friction or stickion ..

Gommie, appreciate all the good feedback, I think you might be the hollowpoint guru now ;)
